When Erik the Red, his family and thralls came to settle on the land northwest of Iceland during the Viking era, Greenland was the name the Scandinavian settlers chose in hopes that the pleasant image associated would attract other settlers. Had the colour gold been used to describe the land instead, it is almost certain to have attracted many more.

Skanderbeg Capital has a huge interest in the resource space; it’s how we got our start and it’s where we’ve been putting our money for years. We were big believers in the commodity bull before it was fashionable and Skanderbeg’s Bryan Slusarchuk, a former contributing columnist for a large media group in British Columbia, was regularly pounding the table on the merits of gold back when it was sub $400. Those who invest in the resource space do so because there is the potential for some big returns, but getting caught up in the hype and forgetting about the associated risks breaks the cardinal rule of investing…(Read on)

On April 26th, the well publicized purchase of Underworld Resources by Canadian gold miner, Kinross Gold is set to complete. But it seems that as one chapter closes for the Underworld team, another one just begins. It took less than two years for the Underworld exploration team to take their White Gold project in Yukon from geological concept through to discovery and then takeover. This is an amazing feat in an industry where many companies toil on individual projects for decades before claiming this type of victory….(Read on)

Greenscape has secured $8.5 million in debt financing, arranged by RBC, for one of their flagship projects; Denver Green Park DIA. There is an old saying about judging somebody by the company they keep. The same, in many ways, can be said for corporations. Greenscape Capital Group, for a young and upcoming organization, certainly keeps some very good company. Today, Greenscape announced that their relationship with RBC Capital Markets Real Estate Group (RBC) has paid off in a big way. RBC has arranged an $8.5 million debt facility to be used towards the development of Denver Green Park DIA, the “world’s greenest parking facility”….(Read on)

At Skanderbeg Capital we’ve been publicly singling out stocks that we are very interested in. We’re not investment advisors and always caution people reading NOT to take this as investment advice in any way, shape or form, but we do enjoy sharing our thoughts on the market from time to time. Outside of what we think are a great group of companies bundled under the Skanderbeg name, we’ve honed in on a few organizations that have great stories behind them with strong leadership. Some of those “picks” have really proven their worth in the last few months and others, as is inevitable in this business, have not.
So here’s a rundown of every pick we’ve made publicly and how they’ve done so far. We aren’t being selective about what “picks” to highlight. Here they all are, the good, the bad and ugly. Fortunately for us, there is a lot more good than bad and the “pick” performance has been quite spectacular…..(Read on)

Skanderbeg Capital Group recently caught up with Dr. Allan Miller, Chief Geologist at Tirex Resources.
Dr. Miller is a distinguished Mineral Deposits Specialist who is headlining the Tirex Resources technical team in Albania. His expertise has played an integral role in the mapping and interpretation of the mineralization and geology of Tirex’s Mirdita District.
Prior to working with Tirex, Dr. Miller was a Mineral Deposits Research Scientist with the Geological Survey of Canada, where he was tasked with regional-scale metallogenic and deposit-scale alteration studies in northern Canada.
Dr. Miller’s technical expertise and intimate knowledge of the Mirdita property makes him the obvious point-man for a real discussion on the property….(Read on)

Underworld Resources (TSX.V:UW) has earned its keep, with its flagship Yukon gold property (the White Gold project) earning the nod from Gold miner Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX:K), in the form of a friendly takeover bid.
Underworld Resources has been on the Skanderbeg stock radar for some time now. Way back in April, 2009 Skanderbeg Capital CEO Bryan Slusarchuk publicly (in David Pescod’s Late Edition) picked Underworld as one of a very short list of mineral exploration companies to keep a close eye on. Underworld was a 65 cent stock in April. And just look at it now! Today’s Kinross Gold takeover bid values Underworld stock at approximately….(Read on)

In the last six months I have seen an incredible amount of content written on energy efficiency. Right now everyone is talking about “2010, The Year of Energy Efficiency”, or “2010, The Dawn of the Fifth Fuel.” Well 2010 might be when mainstream investors start to queue in to the potential this opportunity offers, but 2009 laid the groundwork. Last year, according to a Peachtree Green Advisors report, there were a total of “248 greentech mergers, acquisitions, and capital raises in the U.S.” Of those 188 raises, 42% were in the Distribution, Storage, and Efficiency sector. In the 2010 Green Biz Index, an annual GreenBiz.com report (from Greener World Media, Inc) measuring the state of…(Read on)

The demise of the euro and pound has been disguising the dollar’s troubles. But now that fig leaf is falling away.
Sometimes the markets seem like a real battle between the macroeconomic and the micro-cephalic. Right now in jolly old England, Labour and its allies are positing that “too strong an effort to reduce runaway deficits will result in a savage reaction (really: that’s the phrase they used) that will destroy the British pound.”…(Read on)

Yesterday morning Vancouver awoke to an Olympic hangover, and I don’t mean the alcohol induced one. By now, the sudden realization that Vancouver’s two-week international coming-out party has come to an abrupt end is starting to set it. Next comes the withdrawal. Previous host cities have called it a “post-Olympic depression”. Over the next few days, our one million plus visitors will depart, en masse, leaving an enormous void where once stood thousands of slightly intoxicated yet utterly jubilant spectators….(Read on)

A core competency of the Skanderbeg Capital Group is identifying investment opportunities that have yet to be realized or recognized by the mainstream community. We have been heavily focused on the green economy for the past several months but have maintained the notion that there are always opportunities to be had, sometimes in markets that are not receiving huge amounts of media attention (as the ‘green’ market is today). Some investment opportunities lie in waiting, operating in markets that are seldom talked about, yet potentially profitable…..(Read on)
